We have experience establishing imaging protocols that institutions use and adhere to for data consistency and optimal diagnosis.​

Our clinical protocol development services provide a list of sequences that can be used to collect data on arteries, veins, flow and iron content in the body.

Using our protocols, a radiologist will know how to run the following scans:
  • 2D time-of-flight MRV through the head and neck down to the subclavian
  • time resolved MRA/MRV of the head and neck coronally to the aortic arch
  • flow quantification through the straight sinus, the jugular (upper and lower) and coronally through the jugular/subclavian and brachiocephalic veins in one plane, to check for reflux flow and slow flow
  • SWI if available to check for the small venous structures and iron content

Please note that although these protocols come from a Siemens scanner, they are valid for all manufacturers systems.

THIS IS A FLEXIBLE PROTOCOL THAT CAN HAVE A VARIETY OF SEQUENCE TYPES USED AS LONG AS THE MAIN INFORMATION DESCRIBED ABOVE IS OBTAINED (MRV/FLOW/SWI) AS WELL AS A CONVENTIONAL MS SCAN IF POSSIBLE.
 
For example, a spin echo T1 or MP-RAGE can be used or any other reasonable equivalent of any of the sequences shown here. We would recommend not using any resolution worse than what we have proposed although higher resolution would be fine. The closer we stick to creating similar information across systems the more useful this information will be in the future.

​The following protocols are preferred for traumatic brain injury and multiple sclerosis:

STAGE IMAGING PROTOCOL

Strategically Acquired Gradient Echo (STAGE) can image the whole brain and its vasculature in 9 minutes.

Features:
* Co-registered T1W, PDW, T1 MAP, PD MAP, R2* MAP, SWI, tSWI, MRA and SWIM with a resolution of
0.67mmx1.33mmx2.0mm and with 64 partitions.

  • B1: TE=7.5ms/17.5ms, FA=6 degrees, 2.5 minutes
  • B2: TE=8.75ms/18.75ms, FA=24 degrees, 2.5 minutes
  • B3: TE=2.5ms/12.5ms (RP)/12.5MS (DP), FA=12 degrees, 4 minutes

* Complemented by a T2 FLAIR image and by a DWI scan, a total of 12 minutes for the brain protocol.
* Allows for separation of arteries and veins.

* Allows for brain structure segmentation with homogeneous STAGE-enhanced T1W and QSM.
* Data Processing done by SPIN software from MR Innovations.
